Module 2 – Unit 3: Project Work
Listening to Conversations on the Web
Go to www.englishmed.com, a medical English multimedia course. On this site, there are many language exercises and spoken conversations that you can listen to.
In order to view and listen to the dialogues, you may need to create a new account. You are required to enter a “Username,” a password, and your email address.
Click on “Dialogues” on the top menu bar. You will see a list of dialogues by subject. (You may need a subscription to open all of the dialogues.)
For each dialogue:
-
Watch the video clip by clicking on “See full cartoon.” Listen for the main ideas.
-
Read the summary and language notes about this dialogue.
-
Watch the video clip again. Listen for the language that is highlighted in this dialogue.
-
Watch the video clip a third time. After each line, click on the pause button and repeat the line after the speaker. Notice the speakers’ intonation and how their voices rise and fall. Also notice which words and syllables are stressed.
-
Repeat step #4 as many times as you like.
Note: The text of each dialogue is shown on the screen, so you can read as you listen.
