Researching Treatment Options
Think of a situation in your health care specialty in which you would need to help a patient choose between treatment options. Research the patient’s condition and treatment options by using information from textbooks, journals, or the Internet.
- Write a description of the setting: where you are working and your profession.
- Write a description of the patient, medical situation, and his or her treatment options.
- Write a description of what you would do to help the patient choose a treatment. Remember that the way you help a patient choose between treatments depends on your clinical role. For example, a dentist and a dental hygienist might give different kinds of help to the same patient making a treatment choice.
